Actor-politician Vijay’s party rejects ‘baseless’ rumours of alliance with AIADMK

Actor-politician Vijay’s party, Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), on Monday dismissed speculation about a possible alliance with the AIADMK for the 2026 state assembly elections.
Rumours of a potential TVK-AIADMK partnership gained traction after Vijay, during the launch of his party, declared that his political opponent is the ruling DMK and his ideological opponent is the BJP, but refrained from mentioning the opposition AIADMK.
“With the intention of hindering the rise of TVK, a major Tamil daily has published completely untrue information about an alliance between Thamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam and AIADMK, based on baseless claims. This news is completely false, without evidence or foundation,” party General Secretary Bussy Anand said.
He urged the public to disregard such news and emphasised that the party is preparing for the 2026 assembly elections, also expressing confidence in securing a decisive victory.
Vijay, 50, held the inaugural political rally of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on October 27 in Villupuram district, where he outlined his party’s ideology and goals, which blend Dravidian ideals with Tamil nationalism, emphasising equality, social justice, and secularism.
Since the actor announced his party, the AIADMK has refrained from criticising TVK, fuelling rumours of a potential alliance. Some have speculated that Vijay is seeking the Deputy Chief Minister’s post and 60 seats to contest in the 2026 elections as part of such an alliance.
Rejecting these, Anand tweeted, “The political path of Thamihzhaga Vetri Kazhagam is for the pure benefit of Tamil people. The aim of TVK is to follow the ideology proposed by the party leader, attain massive victory through people’s support and form a good government for the people”.
Simultaneously, speculation also swirled about a potential BJP-AIADMK alliance in the state following a recent remark by AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS). When asked about the possibility of a tie-up with the BJP, EPS stated that his party would consider forming an alliance with any party committed to ousting the “anti-people” DMK and willing to accept the AIADMK’s leadership.
However, after it stirred political speculation, EPS dismissed the rumours, stating that there would be no alliance with the BJP, with whom they severed ties in September 2023.
